Reviews of No Such Thing as Immortality
 by Sarah Tranter

...There is a great mixture of funny and witty elements coupled with sheer emotion and intensity. All characters are extremely well created and developed. I can see why Rowan is attracted to Nate. If I would fall for a vampire it would definitely be him Angel or Edward who?

The ending surprised and intrigued me even further too many secrets remain unsolved and I cannot wait for the next instalment!

lovereadingJanuary 2013 Debut of the Month.
A promising start from debut author Sarah Tranter and a new departure for romantic publisher Choc Lit. Perfect for fans of Twilight and True Blood. A story told totally from the point of view of a man who happens to be a 200 year old vampire - until now - not known for his feelings. Well that was before he gets involved with Rowan Locke. Can you have blood flavoured chocolate? Would vampires like it?

noveliciousNo Such Things As Immortality is ultimately a tale of love. Nate and Rowan experience a sudden, but all consuming connection and although Nate wants to be with Rowan, he knows it can never happen. He is a vampire, while Rowan is a human, and he's aware that she would be terrified and repulsed if she ever discovered the truth. I loved the chemistry between the pair and could feel Rowan’s frustration as Nate backed away with no real explanation. It was also very sweet the way Nate, who has never been in love before, becomes consumed by his need to protect Rowan from any possible dangers, including walking up and down sets of stairs.

NewBooks MagazineIt was unexpected to find myself not only reading, but enjoying, what I believe is known as Twilight fantasy fiction, but after reading a couple of harrowing novels set in war zones, it was a refreshing change to enter a different world. I came to this as a complete beginner to the world of vampires and found the author develops the characters well, gradually revealing the diverse qualities of these beings, until I was hooked! It is a romance between a vampire and a human, but also a gripping thriller, with dramatic occurrences on the way.

Vampires eh? You’ve gotta love ‘em. Well, no, actually. I never loved them. In fact, they terrified the c**p out of me...
...Except well, now I’ve read No Such Thing As Immortality by Sarah Tranter. And you know what? I’m in love with vampires. Well, one vampire to be exact. Nathaniel Gray, or Nate to his friends and family, all of which happen to be vampires, too. For two hundred years Nathaniel and his sister Elizabeth, brother-in-law Frederick, and friends Madeline and James, have lived on Nate’s ancestral estate, Ridings, in the Derbyshire countryside, feasting on badgers, foxes and black pudding. These are not your average vampires. They don’t want to kill humans. Forced into a way of non-life that leaves him lonely and with his emotions all but vanquished, the only real feeling he has left is self loathing, defining himself as a monster.

I LOVED this book! I’m guessing a vampire book will receive comparisons with the Twilight books, as obviously it was Twilight which really kicked off the vampire novels in recent years. However. I’m going to come out with it and say that Sarah Tranter’s No Such Thing As Immortality is in my opinion MUCH MUCH better than the Twilight books! Leave Edward and Bella on your bookshelf for a bit. You need to become acquainted with Nate and Rowan!
...No Such Thing As Immortality is a beautifully written love story. But if you want something more than a love story then look no further! This book is full of humour, drama, twists and turns and will have you on the edge of your seat desperate to read more! This is a brilliant start to the trilogy and I am very excited about the next book!

Although this book is about vampires, it isn’t like Twilight or the Sookie Stackhouse books. Yes, there are some similarities but the writing style is completely different and I definitely appreciated that. Sarah does a great job at crafting Rowan and Nathaniel Gray and I really enjoyed their instant chemistry. The two have an undeniable spark and I really liked watching Nathaniel suffer through feelings that he hadn’t experienced in such a long time. Overall, this story was very enjoyable, and at times, quite comical.

Sarah’s story takes us into a world where love and extreme loyalty are of prime importance, but where enchantment and supernatural powers can threaten Nate and Rowan at any moment. Family ties are different here, but no less powerful. With a bond between them that is like nothing they have ever dreamed of, the lovers should be invincible, but Nate hasn’t banked on Rowan’s past being as lethal and mysterious, as his own.
I can’t wait for the follow up to this book hurry up, Sarah! Nate is haunting my dreams!

This funny, touching and elegantly written love story is told in Nathaniel’s highly distinctive voice -  there is a whiff of a more awkward and vulnerable Darcy about him when faced with the mysteries of modern dating, but when the baddies turn up, he’s all you could want from a love-sick vampire. Rowan is a fine character too - strong, witty and, ultimately, accepting and Nathaniel’s family and friends provide some entertaining sub-plots. Add in faeries, mystery and a satisfying ending that still leaves the way open for further books in the series, and this is a highly enjoyable read.

No Such Thing As Immortality is the first in a series that I think has huge potential. As the novel comes to a dramatic conclusion there are hints that the vampires might not be the only non-humans in existence and I’m really looking forward to finding out more about the paranormal world that Sarah Tranter has created and seeing where the story and Rowan and Nate’s relationship goes next.  An exciting debut!

Four heartsA fab read! Not the kind of book I'd usually pick up being fantasy, but I really enjoyed this story and I loved the characters, Nate and Rowan. Nate is a drawn with warmth and humour - a vampire with a heart and a conscience. Rowan is definitely kick-ass. It gives the story a great angle that Nate feels all her emotions. The touch of humour throughout the book makes the characters seem all the more real, and gives the novel a unique style. The concept and plot is original, giving a new twist to the vampire story, and I liked that it is written solely from the male/vampire point of view. A great debut novel for Sarah Tranter, I look forward to reading the next instalment!

I had been eagerly awaiting the release of the debut novel by Sarah Tranter for many months now and was so excited to find that the wonderful Choc Lit had released the eCopy early on Amazon, so I hotfooted (hotmoused?) over, bought a copy and started reading it straight away (abandoningFinale by Becca Fitzpatrick  - I shall now return!) It was not a decision I regret!
The first line of the book had me spluttering, and hooked;
'Yesssss! I just thrashed your anally retentive arse!'...
...S
arah Tranter has the most beautiful, intelligent writing style, giving Nate a romantically charming Darcy-esque persona which would leave most women drooping at his feet, and I am really excited that this will not be the last we hear of this beautiful love story.
A definite 5 stars!
