Reviews of Move Over Darling
 by Christine Stovell

LASRI also loved the setting of the quaint Welsh village and the theme of can you ever go home again. The secondary characters were also well rounded and I found myself also cheering for another couple, Kitty and Adam. Some of the characters were quirky and the author did a great job giving me a feel for the workings and sometimes bickering politics of small town life.

If you’re looking for a fun read on a winter’s day and like me, remember some of the old Doris Day classics, this story is a delight and one that I recommend.

Move Over Darling is the first book by author Christine Stovell that I have read and I loved it.
I loved the setting of Penmorfa and all of the local characters. Although, mainly set in Wales, the storyline does also take us to New York and I enjoyed Stovell’s vivid descriptions of this famous city.
...Move Over Darling is another un-putdownable love story from Choc Lit. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

lovereading2Another satisfying romantic read from the publisher Choc Lit. Ex-management consultant Coralie runs away from her stressed life to west Wales to set up a new business making and selling natural beauty and cleaning products. There she meets Gethin but potential happiness is thwarted by past secrets that aren’t so easy to wash away!

noveliciousNot only did I enjoy Coralie and Gethin’s story, I also loved the village as a whole and felt I really got to know everybody, from old, bitter gossips, Mair and Delyth, to Alys and her daughter, Kitty. Alys can feel her marriage crumbling around her, but instead of tackling her worries, she focuses all her efforts on fundraising for a new village hall. Her daughter returns from her glittering new career in Cardiff and is unable to tell her parents the real reason she is back in Penmorfa. While Kitty’s story is more in the background of Coralie and Gethin’s, I couldn’t help being drawn to Kitty’s dilemma and looked forward to her scenes.
Move Over Darling is full of little stories that are brought together through Coralie and Gethin, my favourite of which was the mystery of who was the female inspiration behind Gethin’s most famous painting, Last Samba Before Sunset. While mostly set in Penmorfa, New York also features in Move Over Darling and I liked the descriptions and details of that city. 8/10

Move Over Darling is a romantic read. It’s also a story about the two leads facing the ghosts of their pasts and for Gethin, looking at his childhood from an adult perspective and accepting who he is.  The romantic sub-plots are also really enjoyable.  Penmorfa and it’s people, New York and Gethin’s life there are portrayed really well. This is one of those stories that has the feel-good factor : )

There are many sub stories running through this will they or wont they, roller coaster of a novel. Christine Stovell has the gift of interweaving the characters and getting the reader to care about all of them. She uses the colour of Coralies retro clothes to exenterate the happy and sad emotions of the story.
As the secrets of all become unravelled, the truth is exposed as are the true feelings of them all, they reader is rewarded with being the fly on the wall in this small village life, as if we there. A wonderful story by an amazing author who gives us her all.

Stovell's second novel is set with magnificent contrast between the rolling countryside of the Welsh Valleys and the bustling city of New York.
Move Over Darling is a really good read, one that will captivate you from the start and leave you pining for me once you have reached the end, which is beautiful, fitting and ties this fabulous book up nicely! I am looking forward to more from this talented author!
