Reviews of The Road Back
 by Liz Harris

historical-novel-society-smallA love story beautifully told, with passion that crosses both time and culture. The atmospheric cover entices the reader to open the book. Once opened, it is a page turner until the cover closes, but the story will remain with you long afterwards. The story is split into two eras, the 1950s and the 1990s; this works very well and helps the story flow. It tells of relationships and how the past has an impact on the present.
...Their forbidden love, the sacrifices and losses, the daughter who is unable to stand up to her stern, cold father, and the son who has little choice but to follow his family’s wishes all make the book an emotional roller-coaster. It is a beautiful story of innocent love, a tearjerker in places, so have a tissue ready

ReviewedAtCTR02steamingcups5steamingcups5steamingcups5steamingcups5steamingcups5This is a book the reader wallows in. Despite a few awkward structural stories’ positioning, it rings true and eats at the very heart of one’s emotions. The Coffee Time Romancecharacters are well CTRRAwarddrawn, the language appropriate, and the feelings and motivations clear. Patricia’s mother is a predictably weak but sympathetic person; her father is a wounded tyrant. And she is caught in the middle to keep her sanity and make her life livable the only way she can.

This is a really enjoyable page turner with a thrilling story.
A tale of love lost and found; of parents and children; of duty and responsibility and of the contrast between cultures and between past and present. A terrific debut.

It's a love story about a young man and a woman from different cultures. A different time, but then love will overcome anything and everything. It was a sweet story and I liked that the setting was so different. But it also made me cry.

...The story is captivating as we are taken through the protagonists’ respective childhoods in different countries. Their meeting, friendship and love story in Ladakh. And eventually to 1995, thirty-two years later in England. The romance between Kalden and Patricia is incredibly sweet and touching as we see these two young people fall desperately and irrevocably in love.
I’ve read plenty of romances, but very few real love stories. The Road Back is an absolutely beautiful story of two young people whose love will endure a lifetime, different cultures, and separation. Highly recommended.
